Hi loves! Autumn is my very favourite time of year. It’s not too cold but it’s not too warm, autumn colours are gorgeous and the harvest means warm pies and long nights. Best of all, Christmas is close and Hallowe’en is around the corner! I’ll be sharing some of my favourite dupes, tips and money saving hacks during my favourite season, starting with mascara.
I have always been a Maybelline Mascara girl. Every girl’s first mascara in my school was Great Lash and we swore it was God’s gift to our lashes! The wand was simple and I had lots of very fine lashes. It did just what I wanted at 14 years old – made me look like I actually had lashes. Great Lash is a staple and is great for beginners with the £4.99 price tag.
Recommended for: Beginners, Day time looks
When it comes to the drugstore, I’m still a fan of Maybelline and have been trying out Maybelline’s The Falsies Push Up Drama. This is a great thickening mascara and really makes the most of my thin lashes. At first, there’s a lot of formula on the wand – I would recommend wiping some off. I love this mascara… for the first two weeks, after that it dries out considerably and makes my eyelashes look short and stubby. If only it could stay at peak greatness, it would be one of my faves. It retails at £7.99 which is fairly average for a drugstore mascara. Boots is currently running a promotion on Maybelline products, buy one get one half price!
Recommended for: Fine lashes looking for volume.
L’Oréal’s Miss Manga
I had never really tried L’Oréal mascaras before my favourite YouTuber Jackie Aina recommended L’Oréal Miss Manga. Anyone that watches Jackie knows that she has the most amazing lashes so I thought I would try it out and OMG I fell in love.
At first I was little annoyed as the wand has a little bendy connection point thing on it which makes application a little tricky. That odd contraption aside, the mascara, lengthens, volumises and thickens my lashes and is the perfect mascara for me. It completes my daytime looks and with a few extra coats it looks like I’m wearing false lashes! I’ve had it for a month now and it hasn’t dried out and is most definitely my go to mascara. It is £7.99 at Boots!
Recommended for: All Rounder; lengthening; volumising; separation – dramatic daytime or nighttime looks.
Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara
Benefit’s They’re Real was my very first ‘high end’ mascara and I was absolutely in love with it! The spiked wand gave me really separated lashes and allowed me to really work the wand from root to tip. This would be great for people with lashes on the shorter side who really want a lengthening mascara. The little ball at the tip is great for lower lashes too.
Like Maybelline’s Falsies Push Up Drama, I feel like this mascara loses its potency just a little too soon! It’s a little pricey at £19.50 but it I think it’s a great mascara for both day and night time looks.
Recommended for: Shorter lashes looking for length, separation, day and night looks
YSL’s Luxurious Shocking Volume
My friend has been ranting and raving about how amazing this mascara is for the longest and on our trip to Portugal I just had to pick one up at Duty Free!
The first thing I noticed about YSL’s Luxurious Shocking Volume was that it smells amazing (YSL take the opportunity to bottle that scent and sell it!). This formula gave me thick, separated lashes that were long and lasted all day without smudging underneath my eye. I have heard from some people that it can crumble so I wouldn’t apply too much and would stick to two coats. I would highly recommend this mascara for everyone but especially people with thin lashes like mine or short ones.
As you would imagine from a high end mascara, it’s quite pricy at £25 from Harrods and I think that Miss Manga does a similar job for a much lower price point. Save your coins! This is definitely my special occasion mascara.
Recommended for: All Rounder, especially good for thickening and separation.
Those are my mascara favourites this autumn. I hope you find these helpful when looking for your next purchase and join me next time as we delve into mascara technique and hacks!
Until next time!
